The low down on summer jumping.

Monday, May 25th, 2009 8:03 pm by Falling Illini

I’m trying to work out a new system of scheduling to try and give the dropzone a little more notice of how many jumpers we will have. The schedule for jumping will vary depending on the type of jump you want to make. You can schedule jumps several weeks in advance (or even for the end of the summer), and I would encourage you to do so. If you call me last-minute wanting to do a jump, I won’t be able to fit you in.

Tandem: If you have a car and drive yourself, you can jump any day of the week. I will need at least 7 days notice and a $20 deposit before I can book your jump. You can give me cash or a check and I will write you a receipt. The deposit goes towards the cost of your jump, so once you get the the dropzone you would only pay $159. If you don’t show up for your jump then you lose the $20. If external circumstances (such as weather) prevent you from jumping, you will be reimbursed.

If you do not have a car, I will be taking people down every Sunday, some Wednesday afternoons, and some Saturday afternoons. I still need to know 7 days ahead of time and will need to get a deposit from you to reserve your spot. I will be sending out e-mails announcing which Saturdays and Wednesdays I’m going down.

Static Line: The first-jump course is only offered on Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings. I do not need a deposit for static line students, so if you don’t want to pay the deposit then this is your only option. If you want to come back to do more static line jumps, e-mail me and I will let you know what days would be availiable.

AFF: Weekends work best for AFF, but if you want to go during the week e-mail me and I will let you know what’s going on.

As always, feel free to e-mail me with any questions you may have. I hope to see many of you throughout the summer.

Happy summer and Blue Skies,

 Mike Murphy

Summer Skydiving!

Monday, May 18th, 2009 5:27 pm by Falling Illini

Hey everybody, I hope finals went well and you are relaxing and enjoying the beginnings of summer. Although the semester is over, the skydiving is not. I am staying in Urbana over the summer and will be taking people down to make jumps whenever possible. If you will be in the area and would like to be notified of skydiving trips, please respond to this e-mail and I will add you to the summer list. Likewise, if you would like to be removed from the list simply reply with “Remove” as the subject. And finally, if you are home for the summer and think you want to try skydiving, shoot me an e-mail and I can recommend a good place that will give you our Falling Illini discount.

I look forward to seeing many of you over the summer.

Blue Skies,

Murphy

Congratulations to Zhen Chng, Joel Ho, Caris Tan, Jenn Deichl, Joe Nance, Julie Fry, and Peter Killian for all making their first Tandem jumps on Friday! Also, congrats to Abdul who passed his A-license check dive. There are only a few more opportunities to jump this semester, so if you want to come out, now is the time! We will be jumping (weather permitting) May 2, and May 9 To ensure that you get a spot, make sure you’ve e-mailed me by 4PM on Wednesday of whichever week you want to come. After each Wednesday I can’t guarantee that we will have a spot for you.
