Hello Everybody!  Hopefully everyone survived the worst of winter.  To start off the semester, we are going to go to Illinois Skydiving Center’s Safety Day on March 10th. You should attend this if you have already taken the first jump course and you are a a student jumper. You should also come if you are an experienced jumper.  Safety day is a free refresher course, and there will be raffles and such.

Now, if you want to jump out of a plane by yourself, there will be static line courses March 11th, 18th, and 25th. The price is $150 for the First Jump Course, equipment rental, and the first jump!

Please keep in mind, that if you take the course in March, you will NOT jump the same day.  Spring weather is unpredictable, so the plan is to have you take  the 4-6 hour course in March, and then have you jump in April when the weather is better.  If you have any questions about this, please email me.

If you want to do a tandem jump, we aren’t scheduling those yet, so be patient.  Those will start back up in April at some point.

First off, I want to say thanks to everyone who jumped with us last weekend. It was a blast. For those of you who want to keep jumping, or have yet to jump yet, pay attention.

We will be doing tandem jumps Oct 15-16, and Oct 22-23. We will be having the static line course on both Sundays, so Oct 16 & 23.

Hello Everybody!

There will be a PAC (a big plane) out at the dropzone this weekend. This means that we can take a ton of tandems jumping this weekend. We will be jumping Saturday the 8th, and Sunday the 9th. We will also be having a camp out at the dropzone Friday night (the 7th), and we encourage everyone to join us. We are really trying to pack the pac, so if you’ve ever thought about skydiving this is the weekend to do it. No football game to miss and the weather is supposed to be beautiful this weekend.

Hey everybody! The Falling Illini is having it’s Fall 2010 barcrawl on Thursday, November 11. We’ll send out more details later on, but for right now we need to order shirts. So, if you want a shirt (and let’s face it, who doesn’t), send me your name, phone number and size and we’ll get them ordered. The cost will be $15 or less, and we’ll get them to you the week of the barcrawl. The theme for the barcrawl/shirts is “Remember when sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous?”. I haven’t seen the shirt design yet, but we have our best people on it.

If you want a shirt, I need to have an e-mail by Monday, October 25th at 2pm. We’ll order a few extras, but if you want one your size I’d recommend ordering in advance. Remember, everyone is welcome to come. Don’t think that only jumping once should exclude you. Even people who are just thinking about jumping should come and check us out.

On the weekend of October 15-17 the Falling Illini will be jumping to support R.A.C.E.S., the Rape Advocacy, Counseling and Education Services. If you do a tandem jump this weekend, all of the profits will go towards this phenomenal cause. R.A.C.E.S. provides advocacy (legal and medical) and counseling for survivors of child and adult sexual assault and abuse, as well as professional training, prevention education, information and referral services to school and community groups in Champaign, Ford, Douglas and Piatt counties. R.A.C.E.S. also staffs a 24-hour rape crisis hotline, which provides 24-hour access to information, referral and advocacy services. All of their services are completely free.

So how will this event work? Well, the Falling Illini will be jumping Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend. Because of the nature of the event, we can only take tandem jumpers for this weekend. On Friday we will be leaving around 2:30, so if you get done with class early you can come and jump Friday afternoon. The dropzone will also be offering plane and helicopter rides (prices currently unknown) throughout the weekend, along with lots of food. If you’ve been waiting to do your first jump this is a great opportunity.
